Target Audience:  

All Faculty, Physicians (MDs and DOs), Psychologists, Social Workers, Residents, GME Administration, and Medical Educators and Leaders from SEMCME Member Institutions.  

 

Objectives

After completing this series, participants will be able to:    

1. Define and diagnose the struggling learner by using commonly accepted models and utilizing a framework.  
2. Recognize how Autonomy Supportive Leadership (ASL) is pivotal in the GME assessment system and discuss practical ways to implement ASL and feedback in your program.   
3. Identify the key components of a performance improvement plan and understand how Autonomy, Belonging, Competency, and Meaning aid in the struggling learner's performance improvement.
4.  Recognize the signs of impairment in healthcare professionals and learn the options for evaluation and treatment in Michigan.
5. Learn the different types of physician impairment including: the "discruptive physician", substance use disorders, mental health, and medical issues.

 

 

Accreditation Statement: In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by McLaren Health Care and Southeast Michigan Center for Medical Education. McLaren Health Care is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team."    

This activity will also award credit for psychology (APA) if the requirements necessary for credit are met.                  

 

Medicine CME: The McLaren Health Care designates this live activity for a maximum of 3.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.                   

 

Osteopathic CME:The McLaren Health Care is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. The McLaren Health Care designates this activity for a maximum of 3.5 AOA Category 2-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.                  

 

Psychology CE: The McLaren Health Care designates this activity for a maximum of 3.5 APA CE Credit. Psychologists should only claim the credit commensurate of their participation in the activity.
 

     Social Work CE: As a Jointly Accredited Organization, McLaren Health Care is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 3.5 general continuing education credits.
