Getting the Bias out of LOR

Target Audience:  
All Faculty, Program Directors, Residents, Medical Professionals and Institutional Leadership from SEMCME Member Institutions

 

This highly interactive workshop will provide participants with insight and feedback on the process of writing bias free letters of recommendation.  Participants will actively participate in both small groups to review and rewrite their own LORs and the larger group to share and receive expert feedback.  Participants are encouraged to bring at least one LOR they have written in the last year to improve on during this program.    

 

Key Objectives - after completing this session participants will be able to:  

  • Critically appraise LORs for bias
  • Discuss strategies for bias reduction in LOR writing and review
  • Describe one's own biased LOR writing patterns
  • Demonstrate improved LOR writing skills in order to provide more effective advocacy for subjects of LOR (especially of minoritized identities)
